Page 4 of 4 On my way out of town, I had to stop by the Boothill Graveyard. One of the most famous resting places for cowboys with more than 250 graves of gunslingers and outlaws mainly from the 1880s! Some of the OK Corral gunfight victims are buried there. And the epitaphs are fun to read, though it looks like the same artist painted all of them! No Wyatt Earp, but Billy Clanton is there. But what made my trip there so pleasant were the people who work in the town of Tombstone. They love their town. The re-enactment gunslingers, the shopkeepers, the saloon gals, and everyone I encountered exuded such good energy. The OK Corral gunslingers took great pride in presenting the story with authenticity. Everyone wants to show you a good time.
There are events in Tombstone throughout the year. The big one, "HellDorado Days" is in October. Also there's “Wyatt Earp Days” on Memorial Day Week-end and “Rendezvous of Gunfighters" on Labor Day Week-end. The town can be an entertaining and unique part of your American Southwest tour. If you are looking for an Old West town and experience, visit Tombstone. And if you’re a true fan of the Old West –what are you waiting for? Tombstone is located about 185 miles southeast of Phoenix on Hwy 80 off of interstate 10. You can get more info at www.Tombstone.org |
